What is Biomass?
Biomass is a fuel that can be renewed without having a negative impact on the environment hence the term ‘renewable energy’. The most common biomass is wood based fuel. This can be logs, chips or pellets.
Why is Biomass the future?
The environment on our planet is changing and fossil fuels are a finite resource. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and this is making our climate more variable and uncertain. It is a commonly held view that the climate is warming and this has a bad impact on the plants and animals around us.
There are lots of benefits in choosing biomass and the top three are:
- it’s cheaper than oil or gas
- security of supply
- it helps the environment
